Multi-Family House Plans

Multi-Family house plans are buildings designed with the outward appearance of single structure, yet feature two or more distinct living units that are separated by walls or floors. Most of these designs offer the exterior appeal of single family homes, while offering the economic benefits of multi-family construction. Additionally, multi-family home plans work well for investment property where space is limited and units can be rented. These plans are available in a broad range of sizes and architectural styles. While living units are typically smaller than those of single-family homes, some multi-family style house plans are designed with more luxurious units. Townhouses, Duplexes, Triplex plans and Apartment plans are some examples of multi-family designs. Additionally, Multi-Generational home plans share some common characteristics with multi-family designs.

When it comes to the size and style of the individual dwellings within, multi-family floor plans vary greatly. Duplexes are multi-family homes designed with two living units that are arranged side by side and separated by a firewall, or they are stacked and separated by a floor. The living units may be identical or different in design. A more upscale version of these two-unit dwellings is commonly referred to as a villa. Townhouses are another type of multi-family house plan that consists of two or more units. They can be one or two levels or a combination of both and generally deliver a more sophisticated look and floor plan than their duplex and triplex cousins. Townhouse plans can offer the same floor plan or different floor plans for each unit within the structure. Larger multi-family designs such as apartment plans and multiplexes deliver more than two living units that are strategically arranged side by side, stacked or both. They are quite common in densely populated areas where land is limited but there is a great demand for housing. Created with thoughtful planning and care, multi-family home plans offer many of the comforts and features found in a single-family home plan.
