About Country House Plans & Country Home Floor Plans...
Nothing says “relaxed living” like a country house plan, and nothing makes the home more “country” than its exterior look. Country home plans are most easily recognizable by their covered or wrap-around front porches, multi-pane windows, dormers, window shutters, detached or set back garages, and gabled rooflines. They are known for their deep front and rear porches extending the living spaces outdoors. It is not uncommon for country house floor plans to simply offer informal gathering spaces. The lack of formal spaces promotes relaxed living. Though it is easy to picture them tucked into a hillside along a quite road, country homes blend just as well in most neighborhoods. Warm and inviting, they typically deliver a simplistic nature and a family-oriented floor plan that offers function and comfort. Colonial house plans, Southern home plans and Victorian house plans are closely related to Country home designs.
Though old-fashioned farmhouses are some of the earliest country designs, most of today’s country home plans are far from it. Stylish, yet conservative, today’s floor plans include many up-to-date amenities and most requested features. Most country home plans arrange large and open gathering areas together, while clustering the bedrooms on the opposite side of the home or on the second level for privacy. Generally, the living areas flow together offering flexibility to accommodate the daily needs and changing lifestyle of an active family. Often, a country kitchen, or eat-in kitchen, connects with the main gathering space such as the family room where a characteristic fireplace offers a focal point and warmth on a wintry night. There are many variations of country home designs including the more elegant Victorian home plans and those that showcase European flavor such as Country French homes. One of North America’s most popular home plan styles, country house plans range in size from a simple starter home with the basic necessities to a sprawling and luxurious layout filled with plenty of extras ensuring there is a country design to fit the needs of just about anyone.
