Plans: Contemporary House Plans

Contemporary house plans, known for their unique architecture, reflect a modern style that includes elements from other various house plan styles and integrates them with the surrounding landscape. These home plans, sometimes referred to a prairie style house designs, can be one or two levels and range in size. They are asymmetrical in nature having odd design elements and walls of different heights and shapes creating a unique floor plan. With these retro house designs, sometimes the roof can be a combination of gable, hip, cross-gable, and shed, causing rooflines to run into one another. More commonly, most of these prairie style home designs are topped with flatter or low-pitched roofs. The modern design of contemporary home plans promotes flexible living space and flexible usage allowing the home to have tailored functionality for any occasion, including family activities, entertaining guests or quiet reading. They also have a modern exterior with simple and clean lines. Large windows and extensive use of glass, such as skylights and glass block walls, lend to an abundance of natural light, one of the most notable characteristics of prairie style floor plans. Modern (industrial) materials, such as concrete, cement, stone and wood, are often used to finish the home throughout while decorative elements are kept to a minimum. Some Ranch designs, Two-story homes and Waterfront house plans share similarities with Contemporary house plans.
