Plans: Southern House Plans
Southern house plans encompass many different design variations including Charleston floor plans, Confederate home designs, Georgian style house plans and plantation home plans. Some Southern designs display historical elements like our Southern Colonial homes and evoke the look and feel our founding fathers brought with them to the New World. No matter what sub-styles these home plans fall into, they all share some common elements. Most often, they are two stories and can be simple or complex, while ranging in size. These house plans can be as small as a one bedroom, one bath, house plan or large enough to offer four or five bedrooms and baths. Southern living house plans are typically designed with spacious, free flowing living areas and volume ceilings. Many include several of today’s most requested features and design elements such as kitchen islands, main floor laundry and full-featured master baths. Frequently, with two-story versions, there is a balcony at the top of the stairs and bedrooms are situated on the upper level for privacy. Usually rectangular in shape, the exterior of Southern living homes may feature a gable roof, dormers, small windows, and a wide covered or wrap-around porch with a central entry. These designs may have a simple façade or stylish detailing and work well in rural or suburban areas. They are available with a variety of foundations accommodating several different lot requirements and can be built throughout the country. Providing comfort, convenience and a relaxed atmosphere, these house plans can be built almost anywhere. Southern home plans are closely related to Colonial home plans and Country house plans.
