Plans: Craftsman House Plans
Craftsman house plans are closely related to arts and crafts designs and bungalow house plans. They can be fashioned with Northwestern design and are usually one to two stories. These homes are designed for a relaxed informal lifestyle of socializing and entertaining. Found throughout the country, Craftsman home plans are known for their sturdy construction, easy living floor plans and decorative exteriors. While they can range in size from simple two bedroom, one bath designs to four or more bedrooms and bathrooms, the simplistic bungalow home plans are generally smaller than many other house plan styles. What they lack in size and square footage they make up for in livability making use of every square inch of living space. However, many larger homes also take on the arts and crafts or Northwest style. The most noticeable exterior characteristics of these homes are their wide porches with square or tapered columns, low pitch gable roofs, exposed beams and rafter tails and overhanging eaves. Bungalow designs feature a façade consisting of natural local materials, mainly wood siding, cedar shakes, brick or stone, and offer the appearance of handcrafted workmanship. Inside, they often showcase built-in cabinetry and shelving and extensive use of wood throughout. Craftsman house designs share common elements with Country house plans and European house plans.
