Cape Cod House Plans
About Cape Cod House Plans & Cape Cod Home Floor Plans...
Rooted in America’s historical past, Cape Cod house plans express the style of the New England seaboard. Though originating in the 1700s, today’s Cape Cod home plans are simple in design just like those from long ago having a symmetrical, rectangular or boxy floor plan. A centered entry door and simple ornamentation, such as window shutters only, are characteristic of Cape Cod house plans. Furthermore, Cape Cod home plans are designed to withstand the stormy weather of New England generally having a steep roofline accented with dormers and side gables and an exterior finish of wood shingles or clapboard siding. Keeping these ideas in mind it is easy to recognize Cape Cod house plans share some similarities with Beach and Coastal home plans and Colonial house plans.
These New England style floor plans range in size and can be one or two stories with a varying number of bedrooms and bathrooms. They are sometimes referred to as 1 ½ story house plans or saltbox home plans. Generally, Cape Cod floor plans arrange the main activity and living areas on the first floor off a center hall with at least one large and open gathering area anchored by a fireplace. Typically, all bedrooms are situated on the second floor for privacy. Hardwood flooring is a distinguishing interior characteristic of Cape Cod style homes. Some of these thoughtfully designed houses work well along a shoreline blending nicely with other Waterfront designs in the area. As one of the first designs built by settlers in the New World, these house plans were constructed in many parts of the New England area and quickly became associated with Cape Cod, MA earning them the name we are familiar with today. Gracing our past, present and future, these New England house plans are popular among homeowners for their practicality, affordability and efficient family living.
