Plans: Traditional House Plans
Traditional house plans, sometimes referred to as American home plans, are the most commonly built home designs throughout the United States and Canada. These house plans are a unique mix of architectural styles designed to meet the way of life and preferences of the typical American family. They can be either ranch designs or a two-story homes and range in size and shape. They may be simple one bedroom, one bath cottages or exquisite two-story designs with four or five bedrooms and baths. American house plans are usually rectangular or L-shaped while some may take on other various shapes. They are warm and friendly, as well as, practical. Typically, traditional home plans have covered entries, simple rooflines and at least one front facing gable. Inside, traditional floor plans offer functionality. Combining a family room, nook and island kitchen to create an open floor plan suitable for gathering is one example of a thoughtful and functional design. These house plans can be composed with simple elements and accommodations or they may boast many of today’s most requested, top-of-the-line features. Generally, traditional home plans may offer convenient elements such as a home office, perfect for the work-at-home parent, a rear covered porch, great for grilling, or a mudroom offering a transition from the living areas to the attached garage. American style designs are available on a variety of foundations. Those designed on a walkout basement are well suited for sloping lots and hillside property and sometimes offer a finished lower level.
