Plans: Country House Plans
Country house plans can be one or two stories, range in size and are designed to deliver a relaxing rural lifestyle. As the name suggests, they are suitable for countryside property in rural areas but also blend well in most suburban neighborhoods. These house plans are simplistic in nature providing functionality while creating the look and feel of a much larger home. While designed for comfortable and informal living, some country home plans also deliver elegance. Occasionally referred to as farmhouses or Victorian home plans, the most identifiable features of these designs are either a covered or a spacious wrap-around front porch and an open railing. With the living room generally positioned at the front of the house, the porch extends the living room making the floor plans seem larger than they actually are and serves as a transition between the indoors and outdoors. Country living floor plans typically have large family gathering areas such as a country kitchen, while bedrooms are clustered together and separated from the living areas for privacy. The living areas of these designs generally flow together offering flexible space, accommodating a variety of activities and often include a cozy fireplace lending to a warm and relaxed atmosphere. The exterior often features a gabled roofline running parallel to the road, dormers, one or more arched windows and curved shutters with vertical boards creating a country feel. Country French designs are fashioned with a touch of European flair while still providing comfortable and relaxing accommodations. One of the most popular styles in North America, country house plans are closely related to Craftsman designs, Southern home plans and Victorian house plans.
