Plans: Victorian House Plans

Victorian house plans are composed of one or two levels having an asymmetrical layout and an irregular roofline. Gables face several directions and roof pitches vary. A brightly painted exterior, welcoming covered or wrap-around front porch and detailed ornamental elements adorning the façade easily identify these home designs. Turned posts, spindles, turrets, towers, brackets under the eaves, detailed scrollwork, and gingerbread decorating are just some of the ornate characteristics of Victorian home plans. Occasionally, country house plans and some farmhouses incorporate some of these characteristics and design elements into their exterior details and trim. These house plans cover a wide range when the interior is considered. There is no minimum or maximum finished square footage and no limit to the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. Victorian floor plans, country designs, and Farmhouse plans generally offer a relaxed feel with comfortable room sizes for easy living. The main gathering areas such as the family room and an eat-in kitchen may be combined for functionality and simple flow of activities. However, it is not uncommon to find formal rooms for entertaining guests, such as a living room and formal dining room, within these designs. These homes may offer simple accommodations or some of the most popular amenities. Some Craftsman designs and Country house plans are closely related to Victorian house plans.
