Sometimes referred to as zero lot line home plans and narrow lot bungalow house plans, these homes are found in high density zoning areas where land is precious and houses are built close together such as in large metropolitan areas. They can range from Small and Affordable house plans with a couple of bedrooms and baths to larger family homes with four or more bedrooms and baths. Because narrow lot houses are quite deep, they often feature a linear floor plan. Generally, one-story designs incorporate a long hall grouping the living areas at one end of the home and the bedrooms at the other end for extra privacy. Two-story versions work well on property with limitations by adding square footage in the form of a second level. These designs usually place the bedrooms on the second floor enjoying complete privacy from the living areas. Not only does this concept create a functional and comfortable layout, but it is economical too. It is not uncommon for zero lot home designs to incorporate a garage into the floor plan. Often the garage is positioned at the back of the home allowing easy access from an alley. Many times, narrow lot floor plans are recognized for their minimal impact on the environment. Having a small footprint, they require less green space allowing “more home” to fit on a small lot. This leaves the surrounding land undisturbed.
